For the Love of Africa

A Safari-Chic Gala to benefit the Pokot Medical Clinic

Imagine living in an area so remote that hospitals simply don’t exist. Imagine carrying your sick child 60 kilometers in scorching heat to visit the nearest doctor. Imagine standing in a cue behind 100 others waiting to see the only medical practitioner on duty, only to find that the clinic has no diagnostic equipment or medical supplies to help your child. This is the harsh reality of Pokot families living in Ng’aina, Kenya, a village so forgotten it isn’t on any official map. Each year, nearly a million people in the region are affected by preventable and curable illness because they have no access to medical care.

Friends of Africa International is building a medical clinic in Ng’aina, creating a network of mobile clinics and improving capacity of the region’s only hospital. Project C.U.R.E. has pledged to donate more than $1 Million in medical supplies and equipment. To raise funds needed to complete this project, Friends of Africa International has partnered with Project C.U.R.E. to host a gala benefit, “For the Love of Africa,” on October 19, 2013 in the Stone House Pavilion at the Phoenix Zoo. The Safari-Chic event includes an evening of celebrity entertainment, live and silent auctions, a gourmet dinner featuring authentic African cuisine, a tribal fashion show, and the 2nd Annual Friends of Africa Humanitarian Awards honoring Dr. Douglas Jackson of Project C.U.R.E.

If you can’t attend, please consider making a donation or becoming a sponsor. Event proceeds will provide life-saving healthcare for hundreds of thousands of people.
